Community Supports New Head Start Building

Posted on February 7, 2018

A community meeting to support a new home for Southern Ute Head Start will be held on Wednesday February 21 at 5:00 PM. Dinner will be served; a $6.00 donation for the food is suggested.

Parents and staff at Southern Ute Head Start, and other community members, are coming together to help plan and fund a new facility to house the program. Currently, part of the program, including three classrooms and the kitchen, is housed temporarily in the Southern Ute Museum and Cultural Center after the main building on the Tribal campus was closed in October. The program needs a new location that will house all the classrooms for Head Start and Early Head Start, food services and staff offices.

The Friends of Head Start has been formed to raise funds and help plan the facility. Committees are focused on design, fundraising, communications and cultural education. To participate, or for more information, contact Rebecca Barnes, Family Partnerships Coordinator, at 563-2050.
